Ridgefield is a large down located in eastern Fairfield County, CT. The area was first settled by colonists in the early 1700's as a rural farming community, then grew to prominence around the local railroad and the growing attentions of wealthy New York City residents. Many of these residents built large estates and summer "cottages" throughout the area; unfortunately, many of these beautiful and stately homes were cleared to make room for subdivisions after the Great Depression and World War II.
Today, strict planning and zoning regulations have helped Ridgefield retain its quaint aesthetics from the 19th- and early 20th-century through the present day; the town is known for its beautiful and comfortable atmosphere, particularly along its famous mile-long Main Street.
